Meet Alannah

Connection is essential. When you are looking for a therapist, you want to find someone you can form a supportive and collaborative relationship with. You want to feel that you are really seen and heard, in an environment that is warm, safe, and nonjudgmental. I strive to create such an environment where you are invited to share your story, explore your experience, and pursue your goals. I embrace the role of a facilitator in my clients’ journeys towards personal growth. My goal is to support you in empowering yourself to access the wisdom and strength already within you.

I cultivate therapeutic relationships built on authenticity, empathy, and meeting the client where they are at, and believe all individuals have the capacity to grow and make positive change. My experience includes supporting people with anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, LGBTQ+ related issues, adjustments and transitions, grief, trauma, and relationship challenges. I work with individuals (13 and older), couples, families, and groups in Gig Harbor, WA.

I enjoy staying active with my dogs, Indigo Sky and Bailey, practicing yoga, reading a good book, and connecting with nature in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with hiking, paddleboarding, and camping.

Meet Our Team

Meet our Therapy Dog: Indigo Sky

At times, I incorporate my dog, Indigo Sky, into my therapy work. I believe her presence benefits my clients as she offers her own unique form of support. Indigo Sky (aka Indy) is an 8-year-old blue heeler mix. She has received training from a certified canine behaviorist and successfully passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. She is an empathetic, loving girl who enjoys offering her own form of support to our clients.

She enjoys spending time with her people, exploring the outdoors with hikes and visits to the beach, playing soccer, and snuggling her stuffed toys.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is integrative; I often use mindfulness and compassion-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, nature therapy, and somatic therapy, tailoring my approach to the unique needs of each individual.

Nature-based: Opportunity to foster a deeper engagement with yourself and the world around you within a uniquely healing environment. We may explore trails near our office or meet at a local park for walk-and-talk sessions.

Animal-assisted: One of my dogs will often join in sessions, providing an additional level of therapeutic support.

Compassion-focused: I recognize the importance of cultivating self-compassion, which is often lacking, to enhance your relationship with yourself and empower you to engage in life on your own terms.

Mindfulness: Used to bring you into the here and now, allowing you to feel grounded and make the most of the present moment rather than getting stuck in the "what ifs."

Cognitive-behavioral: I use cognitive techniques to challenge negative thinking patterns and change behaviors that leave you feeling stuck.

Solution-focused: Used to foster a sense of direction, clarify attainable goals, and promote action to make changes.

Somatic: Allows you to develop insight into the mind-body connection and process the emotions that you carry within your physical being.

I particularly enjoy working with teens and young adults. I am happy to work with individuals who are committed to moving forward in pursuit of their therapeutic goals. If this resonates with you – if you feel a sense of connection - I encourage you to take the next step and reach out today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What are my payment options?

I accept private pay only. Payments are due at the time of service and are automatically charged to the credit card you put on file in your client portal.

While I do not accept insurance, I can provide you with a superbill.

Superbills are invoices used for out-of-network billing. When you pay out-of-pocket, you can use a superbill to seek a partial or full reimbursement from your insurance provider. Once you've received your superbill, you submit it directly to your health insurance company. I recommend that you contact your insurance provider directly to verify that they reimburse for out-of-network services before starting treatment.

Where is your office located?

My office is in a group therapy practice called Connection Therapy Center. You will see signage for Connection Therapy Center rather than Pacific Tranquility Counseling on the front door.

Where do walk-and-talk sessions take place?

There are trails easily accessible from my office, which may be explored for nature-based walk-and-talk sessions. Additionally, schedule permitting, I can meet clients at local parks for these sessions. Local parks that may be options include Sehmel Homestead Park, McCormick Forest Park, and Kopachuck State Park.

Will the therapy dog be present for every session?

I offer animal-assisted therapy on a case-by-case basis. This depends on the level of comfort you and our therapy dog, Indy, have around each other. I reserve a limited number of appointment times for clients who prefer not to engage in animal-assisted therapy. Please let me know prior to your intake session if you are not comfortable with this.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

I prefer to work in person with clients, though I offer virtual sessions if someone is unable to come to the office due to sickness or another unexpected situation. If you feel that Pacific Tranquility Counseling is a good fit for you, but it is not feasible for you to come to our Gig Harbor office, I encourage you to still reach out to discuss this option.

What groups do you offer?

Group availability varies. I have previously offered a teen anxiety group, and plan to incorporate additional options (such as a women's self-compassion group) based on the interests of clients.

I currently offer a group called Paws to Connect, with certified canine behaviorist Ann Waterbury of Sound Dog Connection, as a collaborator, that supports people with anxiety who have dogs with anxiety. We collaborate to offer insight into the experience of anxiety, provide specific interventions for anxiety management in person and dog, and support participants in strengthening their relationship with their dog.
