Family Therapy
Who is family therapy for?
This is for families who are interested in exploring their dynamics to develop a greater understanding of their individual perspectives, improve communication, address areas of conflict, and improve their functioning as a system. I regularly work with parents and teens who need support with navigating their relationships and addressing challenging family dynamics. Parent-child conflict often arises during the teenage years, and engaging in family therapy is an opportunity to develop skills that will allow parents and their teens to improve their relationships. This is especially relevant when one or more members of the family are facing individual mental health concerns. Please note that I do not work with clients younger than 12-years-old. Family therapy can be a standalone treatment, or occasional family sessions can be utilized to supplement one member's individual treatment.
What does a session look like?
A session is typically 50-minutes long (though 30-minute sessions and extended sessions can be an option). During the session I will utilize different types of therapeutic interventions tailored to your unique needs. I have an integrative approach, and often utilize systemic family therapy when working with families, supporting you in exploring how the behaviors of each individual member impact the whole. You may learn about different tools that could benefit you, which I will encourage you to practice applying outside of session. While the therapy session itself is vital, the majority of your therapeutic work will occur outside of session.
